Omah Ogel Animal Sanctuary · Indonesia

190+ Rescued Animals.
One Urgent Mission.

We were given just six weeks to relocate nearly 190 rescued animals. After 11 years of rescue work, we finally have the opportunity to build a permanent sanctuary where they can live without the fear of relocation or uncertainty.

For the first time, they will have a place to call HOME.

The Dog Who Started It All

From One Puppy to More Than 190 Lives.

🐕
Before there was a shelter. Before there were rescue missions. Before there were 190 dogs and cats — there was one tiny puppy.
💛
Eight years ago, Amy Sukmana found a young puppy alone on an empty piece of land. His mother and littermates had died from Parvovirus, one of the deadliest diseases for puppies. He was the only survivor. Amy couldn't leave him behind, so she brought him home.
Saving him wasn't easy. The veterinary treatment would cost nearly all of Amy's savings at the time. But giving up was never an option. Against the odds, he survived. Amy named him Ogel. That one rescue would go on to change hundreds of lives.
🏡
What began with a single act of compassion eventually grew into Omah Ogel — a sanctuary that now cares for more than 190 rescued animals.

Today, those same animals are waiting for a permanent place to call HOME.

The Woman Behind Omah Ogel

Amy Sukmana is known throughout Indonesia's animal welfare community as someone who never hesitates to help.

🤝
For more than 11 years, she has supported fellow rescuers, shared food and resources with struggling shelters, helped raise funds for animal welfare causes, and offered guidance during difficult rescue situations.
Many rescuers turn to Amy when they need advice, support, or simply someone willing to step in and help.
💼
While many shelters rely heavily on public donations, Amy spent years building and growing her own businesses — including Dapur Ibu Amy (catering services), Lilo Transpet & Petshop, and pet-related services — to support the animals in her care.
🌟
For years, Amy helped others before ever asking for help herself.
The land for Omah Ogel's permanent sanctuary was purchased entirely from her personal savings.
Today, for the first time, she is inviting animal lovers around the world to help complete a home for the animals who depend on her.

From a Rented Shelter to a Forever Home

For more than 11 years, Amy has devoted her life to rescuing dogs and cats in need. Along the way, she has moved from one rented property to another, often facing eviction and opposition from local communities.

For the past six years, Omah Ogel has operated from a rented property in Depok, West Java, providing a safe haven for hundreds of rescued animals with nowhere else to go.

The Decision
Leaving Them Behind Was Never an Option
Many of these animals are elderly, disabled, or recovering from illness. They had already experienced abandonment once before.Amy couldn't let it happen again.

This Is What Home Will Look Like

On a ±1,051 m² plot in Kalongliud Village, Nanggung, Bogor Regency — we are building a safe, humane, and permanent sanctuary for every animal who calls Omah Ogel home.

With limited funds and the urgent need to relocate by mid-June 2026, we had to find a solution quickly.

In April 2026, we purchased a piece of land from a local resident. The property was heavily overgrown with dense vegetation and hundreds of bamboo trees.

As we looked at the land, an idea emerged.

Instead of clearing everything away, we decided to make use of the natural resources already there. Hundreds of bamboo stalks were carefully repurposed into simple bamboo shelters and perimeter fencing for the animals.

It may not be the ideal sanctuary we dream of building one day, but it provides something far more important right now: safety, stability, and a permanent place to call HOME.

For the next 3–5 years, our rescued dogs and cats will no longer have to live under the constant threat of eviction, relocation, or uncertainty. After years of moving from one rented property to another, they finally have a place where they can stay, heal, and belong. For the first time, they won't have to wonder where home is.

I volunteered at Omah Ogel for three months and it changed my life. Amy works from sunrise to midnight, 7 days a week, never complaining. She treats every single animal as if it were the most important being in the world. That's rare. That's real.

Amy rescued a paralyzed dog that three vets had already given up on. She nursed him back to health over five months with zero budget. He's now living with a lovely family in Bandung. That's the kind of person she is — she simply refuses to give up.

We adopted two cats from Omah Ogel last year. Amy spent two hours with us making sure we were the right fit — she cares that much. Six months later she still checks in on our cats. The love doesn't stop when they leave the shelter. It follows them home.

One Puppy Started This Story

8 Years ago, a tiny puppy named Ogel was found alone, sick, and fighting for his life. Amy chose not to walk away.

That single act of compassion eventually grew into Omah Ogel — a sanctuary that now protects more than 190 rescued animals.
